Flames prospect update: alas poor Zavgorodniy, we hardly knew ye
By Ryan Pike
4 years agoThe biggest news for Calgary Flames prospects is some sad news, as Russian sensation Dmitry Zavgorodniy will be out for eight-to-12 weeks due to an injury. It’s terrible news for the organization’s number seven prospect.
In case you missed it:
- Last week’s update
- Your Hitmen report
- Your latest Stockton report
- Oliver Kylington and Dillon Dube were both called up to Calgary!
Lucas Feuk- LW, Södertälje SK/AIK, Superelit/Allsvenskan

Feuk has changed teams since the international break last week. He’s moved from Sodertalje, where he was in the last year of his contract, to AIK. The rationale on the AIK site was that he’s familiar with a lot of the coaches and players, which in theory should open up a path to full-time work in the pros.
He joins Dallas Stars pick Samuel Sjolund, selected five picks ahead of Feuk, with AIK’s U20 squad. Feuk’s new contract runs through 2021-22 season. But there’s a transfer agreement with Sweden in place, so if he’s ready to come over it won’t be an obstacle.
Glenn Gawdin- RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Kirkland had a game-winning goal on Saturday, plus added a couple points from last week via stat corrections. He’s always been a productive AHLer, but he’s on pace for his best offensive season as a pro.
Demetrious Koumontzis- LW, Arizona State University, NCAA (Independent)

GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.69 |

Ryan Lomberg- LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 15 | 6 | 7 | 13 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 34.53 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | +0.81 |
Lomberg had a goal and an assist in Stockton’s Saturday victory. He continues to be a very useful piece for the Heat.

Mattson played once. He didn’t get any points. He continues to face challenges getting into the lineup.
Andrew Nielsen- D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 14 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 5.69 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | +2.37 |
The week after being a healthy scratch, Nielsen doubled his season points production with a helper on Friday against Tucson.
Ilya Nikolayev- C, Loko, MHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 21 | 12 | 7 | 19 | 16 | 15 | 13 | 23.00 |
Change from last week | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | +0.12 |
In his first game back from the Four Nations Cup, Nikolayev scored a goal. He’s already surpassed his goal total from last season in half the time. He didn’t play on Saturday and it’s unclear if it’s due to injury or if he’s been re-assigned.
Joshua Nodler- C/RW, Michigan State
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 10 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 4 | 1 | 10.92 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | +4.12 |
Nodler had a pretty strong week, by freshman standards, for the Spartans. He doubled his college point total over the course of a single weekend.

Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 1 | -3.29 |
Pelletier continues his productive season. He had three points in three games. His NHLe pace crept down slightly, but that’s mostly a product of how good he’s been this season.
Emilio Pettersen- C/LW, Denver Pioneers, NCAA (NCHC)
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 12 | 2 | 8 | 10 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 30.0 |

Up to date | 15 | 5 | 10 | 15 | 8 | 13 | 8 | 39.81 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -6.17 |
Phillips got an assist on Saturday, but had one taken away from last week’s game. His impressive five point game became a merely good four point game instead.
Luke Philp- C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 3 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 5 | 3 | +0.46 |
Another week, another bushel of points for the Flames’ Russian sniper. Zavgorodniy had two three point games and then a quieter night to close out the weekend. Why was his last game quieter? Well, he suffered a pretty gnarly injury:
An eight-to-12 week recovery time would see Zavgorodniy return sometime between the middle of January and the middle of February. He’ll be back in time for the QMJHL’s playoffs, but he’s definitely out for the World Juniors (and he was a lock for that tournament).
Jon Gillies- G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 7 | 419.03 | 0.898 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60.00 | -0.013 |
The more Gillies plays, the more his save percentage continues to crash back down to earth.
Tyler Parsons- G, Kansas City Mavericks/Stockton Heat

Change from last week | – | – | – |
Parsons has finally been medically cleared to play. He was assigned to Kansas City on Sunday and should get his first game action next week.
Nick Schneider- G, Kansas City Mavericks/Stockton Heat

AHL Up to date | 1 | 60 | 0.937 |
Change from last week | – | – | – |
ECHL Up to date | 11 | 661 | 0.898 |
Change from last week | 2 | 136 | +0.005 |
Schneider continues to be just fine in AA hockey. He’ll probably gets fewer reps from here on out, though, with Parsons arriving in Kansas City.
Dustin Wolf- G, Everett Silvertips, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 15 | 875 | 0.939 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | +0.003 |
Wolf played once and made 22 saves in a shutout. He’s statistically the top goalie in WHL in save percentage and shutouts, while sitting one off the lead in wins. He’s a very good goaltender at the junior level.
Artyom Zagidulin- G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 9 | 449.56 | 0.882 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60.00 | +0.08 |
Zagidulin started and won on Saturday against San Jose. His underlying numbers are not spectacular, but he’s been good enough to pick up victories in six of his nine appearances.
