With Dillon Dube heading to the injured reserve, the Calgary Flames were without a healthy extra forward. To fill that void, they have recalled winger Anthony Peluso from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.
Peluso, 29, has been the Flames’ utility man this season. He cleared waivers on Oct. 6 but remained on the roster until Oct. 25. In the interim the Flames brought up Rasmus Andersson to fill Travis Hamonic’s gig on the blueline. When they decided to keep Andersson in the NHL, they sent Peluso to the AHL instead. He has one goal in five games for Stockton.
Peluso’s used to being a healthy scratch – he’s played so little between the preseason and now that USA Today doesn’t have an image of him in a Flames sweater – and with the Flames in the midst of a four-game winning streak, they’re likely not in the mood to tinker too much with their lineup. Calling him up to sit in the press box gives the Flames a measure of insurance, but also lets the kids in Calgary and Stockton keep playing.
Update: It appears that Peluso is dressing for tonight’s game on the fourth line. Given the other options available to recall and play – Andrew Mangiapane, for one – it seems like an odd decision by the club.
