The Calgary Flames made a minor roster move on Thursday afternoon, recalling forward Austin Czarnik from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat. Czarnik had completed a three game long-term injury conditioning stint with the Heat, but remains on the long-term injury reserve list.
Czarnik played three games for the Heat, scoring a goal and adding two assists. He’ll remain on the LTIR until the Flames medical staff believes he’s ready to play. Given that he played in the AHL for three games and seemed in ship shape, it’s likely he’ll be activated fairly soon.
That said, there are no specific CBA provisions requiring the Flames to activate Czarnik immediately. He’s been out since late October with a lower body injury, so they likely want to make sure he’s fully recovered before throwing him into the fray.
