The Calgary Flames have made a roster move prior to Wednesday’s game in Anaheim. The club has recalled forward Dillon Dube from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat on an emergency basis.
Dube, 20, was a second round pick of the Flames back in 2016. He made the NHL roster out of training camp this past fall and generated a ton of good scoring opportunities, but was in a position where he wasn’t playing a ton so the team sent him down to the AHL to get some reps in. He’s emerged as one of Stockton’s most productive offensive players with 15 goals and 39 points in 37 AHL games this season, while he produced one goal and five points for the Flames in 23 NHL games.
The fact that the call-up is on an emergency basis means that the Flames have at least three injured forwards presently – they’re carrying two additional healthy forwards, so invoking an emergency recall means they need an extra body to meet minimum lineup requirements for tonight. The Flames have one regular recall left, so once the emergency situation has been resolved (e.g., after the game) they can simply elect to keep Dube and convert the recall to a “regular” one. Or they could send him back to the AHL for Stockton’s weekend games.
