The Calgary Flames are in the midst of a five game road swing that’s taking them into some pretty formidable road barns. But so far this season, the Flames are one of the top road squads in the National Hockey League. This season’s road record is among the best in franchise history, but also continues a recent stretch of the club being road warriors.
The Flames are historically 19-13-3 on the road, good for a .586 points percentage. This is their fourth-best road record in the history of the franchise.
The three better seasons were:
  • 1987-88 – .625 (Won Presidents’ Trophy)
  • 1988-89 – .613 (Won Presidents’ Trophy)
  • 2018-19 – .610 (Finished second overall)
This is good company to be in, though the Flames middling overall record speaks more to their overall inconsistency and inability to be a strong home club.
Their next road win will be their 20th of the season, marking the fourth consecutive season and fifth over their past six seasons with 20+ victories away from Saddledome ice. This era of the team seems to be defined by success away from home, at least so far.

Five best records in active road buildings

1. BB&T Center (Sunrise, Florida)
Record: 8-2-4 (20 points, .714 points percentage)
The Flames are on a 2-0-1 streak when visiting the Panthers, with their last regulation setback occurring in November 2015. The Flames visit the BB&T Center on Sunday afternoon.
2. Prudential Center (Newark, New Jersey)
Record: 5-2-1 (11 points, .688 points percentage)
The Flames are riding a three game winning streak at The Rock, with their last setback loss being suffered back in January 2016. The Flames are back in Newark in mid-March.
3. Little Caesars Arena (Detroit, Michigan)
Record: 2-1-0 (4 points, .667 points percentage)
The Flames have barely played at the new Detroit barn, but they’ve won two out of three – including their visit there last week.
4. Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
Record: 9-5-2 (20 points, .625 points percentage)
The Flyers may have historically been Broad Street Bullies, but the Flames have owned them at the Wells Fargo Center. They’ve won three in a row there and haven’t lost since November 2016.
5. Gila River Arena (Glendale, Arizona)
Record: 17-12-4 (38 points, .581 points percentage)
The Coyotes have been better lately, and Calgary’s win there in December snapped a two game skid in the desert. But of all their divisional foes, the Flames have their best record visiting the Coyotes than anybody else.

First worst records in active road buildings

1. T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas, Nevada)
Record: 0-6-0 (0 points, .000 points percentage)
Not only are the Flames winless in Vegas, they’ve been out-scored 27-6.
2. Honda Center (Anaheim, California)
Record: 11-32-13 (35 points, .313 points percentage)
The Flames’ win in Anaheim in mid-February was just their third regular season victory there since the 2004-05 lockout.
3. TD Garden (Boston, Massachusetts)
Record: 6-11-1 (13 points, .361 points percentage)
The Flames have had a rough go of it in Boston, failing to win consecutive games there for well over a decade and being shut out three consecutive times in 2010, 2012 and 2013 – including a 9-0 loss.
4. Capital One Arena (Washington, DC)
Record: 5-9-2 (12 points, .375 points percentage)
They’re .500 in the District since Mark Giordano became captain, but prior to that the Flames were regularly run out of town.
5. Scotiabank Arena (Toronto, Ontario)
Record: 5-9-2 (12 points, .375 points percentage)
The Flames have won back to back in their last two visits to Toronto, the first time that’s happened since doing so in 2009 and 2011.
