The PK continued to give up chances like candy on halloween and the Sabres were marginally better at ES when things mattered as well. It was a minor miracle the Flames were within spitting distance after two periods, thanks in part to Karlsson’s heroics and in part to some good fortune.
This was the highest chance count yielded this season despite the low score. It was the second night of a B2B for Calgary so criticism can be tempered somewhat. That said, all the things they did well in Detroit the night before were out the window against an ostensibly inferior foe tonight.
Probably the worst part of the loss, though, is wasting what will probably be one of the best starts by a Flames goalie this year. Karlsson managed a .955 SV% on 44 shots on goal…not going to get too many of those in a season, particularly out of a backup.
Also of note…Stajan didn’t have a bad evening for a change. He played more when Morrison sat in the third and was one of the few Flames to finish in the black in terms of chances.
