FlamesNation prospect update: seasons winding down
By Ryan Pike
4 years agoIt’s March! The regular seasons are almost complete, or are already complete, in several leagues throughout the world. Some prospect’s seasons are done. Some still have playoffs ahead.
Let’s dive in!
In case you missed it:
Lucas Feuk- LW, AIK, Superelit/Allsvenskan
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Superelit up to date | 23 | 12 | 15 | 27 | 20 | 17 | 15 | 24.07 |
Change from last week | 2 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | -1.56 |
Allsvenskan up to date | 27 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2.31 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Feuk had an even strength goal and a power play goal. In his draft+1 season, he’s either a fringe pro player or a pretty productive junior.
The U20 SuperElit Forts – the secondary U20 Swedish playoffs – end next week. The top six from that round robin competition advance to the main SuperElit playoffs. AIK, Feuk’s team, is likely going to qualify, so his season will continue.
Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 52 | 16 | 30 | 46 | 23 | 31 | 16 | 35.25 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -0.62 |
Gawdin’s offensive production has slowed lately, but he remains a key part of Stockton’s offense. He had “only” a power play assist this weekend. He’s 20th in the AHL in points.
Justin Kirkland- LW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 52 | 6 | 22 | 28 | 14 | 18 | 12 | 21.46 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.86 |
Kirkland has really quieted down offensively, but he’s a quietly effective complementary player for the Heat.
Demetrious Koumontzis- LW, Arizona State University, NCAA (Independent)
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 25 | 3 | 5 | 8 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 9.47 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
The Sun Devils are idle this week as they wait to see if they qualify for the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year. They’re 12th in the pairwise rankings and the top 16 teams make it, so they’re in decent shape. Selection Sunday is March 22.
Carl-Johan Lerby- D, Malmo Redhawks, SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 42 | 4 | 12 | 16 | 11 | 8 | 6 | 18.62 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | +0.29 |
Lerby missed Malmo’s game on Sunday with a minor injury. The Redhawks are 9th in the SHL and will be part of the SHL’s initial play-in round, where the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th-placed teams fill in the final two playoff spots.
Linus Lindstrom- C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 46 | 7 | 12 | 19 | 10 | 12 | 7 | 20.19 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.91 |
Lindstrom was quiet in his return after missing a handful of games with a minor injury. Skelleftea is 2nd in the SHL, ahead of Farjestad on tiebreakers.
Ryan Lomberg- LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 21 | 11 | 9 | 20 | 13 | 16 | 11 | 37.95 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Lomberg remains out of action with an ankle injury. The official word is “month to month.”
Mitchell Mattson- LW, Michigan State, NCAA (Big 10)
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 22 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1.24 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.13 |
Mattson’s second NCAA season is over, as Michigan State was bounced from their conference playoffs. They’re 28th in the pairwise and won’t be headed to the the NCAA tournament.
Hey, at least he got a point this season?
Andrew Nielsen- D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 45 | 0 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 4.43 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Nielsen didn’t play this week and wasn’t mentioned in the Heat’s injury tweets. It’s unclear what his status is, besides being a player on an expiring contract who has five assists all season.
Ilya Nikolayev- C, Loko, MHL/NMHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
MHL up to date | 53 | 17 | 15 | 32 | 24 | 25 | 20 | 15.35 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.60 |
NMHL up to date | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | – | – | – | n/a |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Nikolayev is playoff-bound! Loko will face HC Riga in the first round of the MHL playoffs beginning Tuesday.
Joshua Nodler- C/RW, Michigan State
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 36 | 3 | 5 | 8 | 4 | 8 | 4 | 6.07 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.36 |
Nodler’s freshman year is done after MSU was bounced from the playoffs. He seemed to hit a wall at mid-season, but otherwise was said to be a perfectly acceptable middle-six center on an above-average NCAA team.
Jakob Pelletier- LW, Moncton Wildcats, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 56 | 31 | 50 | 81 | 50 | 59 | 38 | 33.68 |
Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | -0.59 |
Pelletier continues a productive season. He’s 9th in points in the QMJHL.
Emilio Pettersen- C/LW, Denver Pioneers, NCAA (NCHC)
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 36 | 13 | 22 | 35 | 17 | 25 | 15 | 35.00 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 | +0.06 |
Pettersen had a pair of PP points. The Pioneers are off to the conference playoffs. They’re 5th in the NCAA’s pairwise rankings, so they’re a virtual lock for the tournament.
Matthew Phillips- RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 37 | 15 | 18 | 33 | 23 | 29 | 21 | 35.54 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -0.90 |
Phllips had a power play assist this week.
Luke Philp- C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 51 | 19 | 12 | 30 | 22 | 28 | 22 | 24.22 |
Change from last week | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | +0.31 |
Philp is the Heat’s leader in goals.
Martin Pospisil- C/LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 25 | 2 | 6 | 8 | 5 | 6 | 4 | 12.75 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | +2.35 |
Pospisil had a point per game week, including his second pro goal.
Milos Roman- C, Vancouver Giants, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 62 | 24 | 23 | 47 | 28 | 39 | 26 | 18.77 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 2 | 2 | 1 | +1.14 |
Roman had a good week and has been strong lately. But the question remains: which month represents the “real” Roman?
- September: 5 games, 4 goals, 5 points, plus-3
- October: 11 games, 3 goals, 7 points, minus-2
- November: 10 games, 5 goals, 8 goals, plus-8
- December: 8 games, 1 goal, 2 points, even
- January: 12 games, 2 goals, 5 points, minus-5
- February: 12 games, 8 goals, 14 points, plus-10
- March: 4 games, 1 goal, 6 points, plus-1
That February and March stretch sure seems like an outlier.
Adam Ruzicka- C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 53 | 10 | 16 | 26 | 16 | 19 | 13 | 19.55 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | +0.79 |
Ruzicka had a pair of assists to continue a quietly productive season.
Filip Sveningsson- LW, Tingsryds AIF, Allsvenskan
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
SHL up to date | 27 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 7.24 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Allsvenskan up to date | 8 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 15.58 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | n/a |
Sveningsson’s season has come to an end. Tingsyrds finished 10th in Allsvenskan, so they will miss both the play-in playoffs to get into the SHL and the relegation playoffs. There’s a decent chance he’ll be coming to Stockton in a few short weeks, depending on his contract situation in Sweden.
Update: Looked into it and Tingsyrds has returned Sveningsson back to Oskarshamn of the SHL. He’ll play for them in the upcoming relegation playoffs.
Eetu Tuulola- RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 49 | 10 | 13 | 23 | 13 | 17 | 10 | 18.71 |
Change from last week | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 2 | +2.60 |
Tuulola has had a really nice stretch of hockey, including a pair of key games this week where this rookie helped Stockton capture crucial points in a divisional race.
He was named first star on Friday and second star on Saturday.
Rinat Valiev- D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 48 | 2 | 8 | 10 | 8 | 5 | 4 | 8.30 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | -0.50 |
Valiev had an assist. Yay!
Alexander Yelesin- D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 37 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 4.31 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.24 |
Yelesin had no points this week.
Dmitri Zavgorodniy- C/RW, Rimouski Oceanic, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 40 | 29 | 38 | 67 | 36 | 49 | 30 | 39.01 |
Change from last week | 3 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 3 | -0.64 |
Zavgorodniy had two multi-point games sandwiched around a quieter game. He’s 23rd in the Q in scoring.
Jon Gillies- G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 29 | 1649 | 0.910 |
Change from last week | 1 | 59 | n/a |
Gillies had one start and won. His save percentage has lost some of its wobble and has been fairly consistent, albeit at a solid (if unexciting) level.
Tyler Parsons- G, Kansas City Mavericks
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 25 | 1328 | 0.910 |
Change from last week | 2 | 96 | -0.004 |
Kansas City had a rough week and Parsons’ save percentage cratered a bit.
Nick Schneider- G, Kansas City Mavericks/Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | |
AHL Up to date | 1 | 60 | 0.937 |
Change from last week | – | – | – |
ECHL Up to date | 39 | 2180 | 0.882 |
Change from last week | 2 | 86 | -0.001 |
On the other hand, Schneider’s save percentage really had nowhere to crater to.
Dustin Wolf- G, Everett Silvertips, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 46 | 2713 | 0.935 |
Change from last week | 2 | 119 | -0.003 |
Wolf’s save percentage plummeted this week… to a WHL-leading .935. He’s the WHL’s goaltending leader in everything.
Artyom Zagidulin- G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 29 | 1568 | 0.900 |
Change from last week | 1 | 65 | +0.001 |
Zagidulin made one start and performed well, nudging his save percentage up to .900 (but lost in a shootout).
