FlamesNation Report Card: March 11, 2016

It’s that time of week again!

In our last report card, the Flames were well on their way to embracing the tank. Since then, however, they’ve collected a possible five of six points – and if we’re being honest with ourselves, they deserved the full six out of six. On the ice, it’s been a really fun week.

In the standings, though, they’re still right at the bottom of the league – fourth from the bottom, as a matter of fact. I have my doubts as to whether they’ll be able to catch Toronto, but every other team should be fair game.

Really, though, at this point it’s all we can do to hope for favourable lottery odds. 

Fingers crossed! Because we’ve just four weeks of the season to go, and then it’s zero Flames hockey for us until October. It’s a much longer break than we had last year, and I don’t like it.

But in the meantime, it really was a good on-ice week. Time to rank the Flames! I’ve taken Brad Treliving off, because we probably won’t be hearing a ton from him over the next few weeks; but now we’ve got a slightly clearer picture of Garnet Hathaway and Jyrki Jokipakka. Also, Tyler Wotherspoon came back! Still waiting for Niklas Backstrom to get a game in, though.

A month ago, we launched our Bloggers Fight Cancer campaign. Today’s the day my hair is getting donated/shaved off, so I’ll probably stop including these reminders every Friday now, but the campaign itself will still be open and you’ll be able to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society if you so wish.

Got any Sunday plans? You do now: the CWHL’s championship game takes place this Sunday, March 13, and Calgary’s in it. The Inferno will take on Les Canadiennes, the league’s top team, in a one game take all championship at 2 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast on Sportsnet, so it’s good for easy watching – and it’ll be fantastic hockey that we’ll have local ties to. Be sure to tune in!
