Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to feast your eyes on the Brothers Hamilton for the first time in the National Hockey League. Freddie Hamilton is officially in for the Calgary Flames tonight, joining little brother Dougie in a big league line-up for the first time.
Winger Kenny Agostino was absent from warm-up and is a scratch tonight with an unspecified injury. Initially the belief was that Sean Monahan might not play – head coach Bob Hartley said he was a game-time decision – but eagle-eyed Canadian Press reporter Darren Haynes spotted only 18 skaters during warm-up.
Hamilton is wearing #25 for the Flames tonight.
Hamilton, 24, was recalled on an emergency basis from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat. He has 35 points in 53 games with the Heat. He joined the Flames by way of trade in early October, heading to Calgary from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick in the 2016 Draft. He’s played 29 previous NHL contests in his career with San Jose and Colorado.
The condition on the draft pick – reportedly Hamilton playing 18 NHL games this season – won’t be met as there are only 13 games left on the docket, but perhaps it’ll turn out that a free asset acquired by Brad Treliving turns out to be a useful one for the organization going forward.
If nothing else, at least Hamilton’s debut will add some spice to the last chunk of the season.
