It’s safe to say @Johnny Gaudreau is feeling it tonight.
The 28-year-old winger has been a man on a mission in the Calgary Flames’ game against the St. Louis Blues, posting a goal and three assists through the first two periods of play on Monday.
Gaudreau’s prettiest assist came late in the second period to set up @Adam Ruzicka’s second National Hockey League goal. After taking a pass from @Matthew Tkachuk just inside the blue line, Gaudreau skated toward the net and made a slick move to undress Blues defenceman @Colton Parayko.
Blues forward @Klim Kostin managed to get back and disrupt Gaudreau enough to prevent him from taking a shot after he deked past Parayko. Kostin was unable to clear the zone, however, with Ruzicka stripping the puck from his fellow rookie just before he could cross the blue.
Ruzicka quickly fed the puck down to Gaudreau, who still wore a grimace as a result of Kostin’s slash. Gaudreau didn’t look much worse for wear when he made a quick pass to Tkachuk, who gave the puck right back to Ruzicka for a tap-in.
The tic-tac-toe goal gave the Flames a 6–1 lead at the 16:09 mark of the second period.
Gaudreau added a goal of his own in the final minute of the frame to give the Flames a 7–1 lead, which remains the score after 40 minutes.
The Flames have scored seven unanswered goals after conceding the opening marker to @Tyler Bozak at the 5:10 mark of the first period. @Nikita Zadorov, @Chris Tanev, @Elias Lindholm, @Sean Monahan, and @Blake Coleman have also scored for the Flames.
The Blues have been outshot 35 to 9 through the first two periods of Monday’s game.
