Welcome to the Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s 27th game of the season on Dec. 3, 2009.
(That is, for some reason, the second picture that comes up when you Google "Rene Bourque.")
RENE BOURQUE!!!!!!!!
Let’s be honest here, Jarome Iginla can’t stay white-hot forever. Without Bourque, Iginla, along with Miikka Kiprusoff, has hoisted the team on his back, scoring five goals and five assists in the six games and generally being the best player in the league. So why make a big deal out of him coming back?
While you could certainly make a logical argument that the Flames have played just fine without him (5-0-1, all but one on the road), it’s certainly nice to have a point-a-game player back, isn’t it? Now Iginla and Bourque are on the top line together with Olli Jokinen who, oh my he has 2-6-8 in Bourque’s absence. I prefer to think that the return of the man from Lac La Biche will only help to get Olli to continue on this path of excellence rather than regress back to what I call the Pumpkinhead Zone.
And this move also makes the third line better, because now instead of having nobody to get him the puck and maybe get him that first goal of the year, Craig Conroy gets a genuinely good third-line player in Jamie Lundmark to feed him.
This return is going to help the Flames immensely.
I hope.

Who

The Calgary Flames (17-6-3 for 37 points. Tied for second in the West, first in the Northwest) and the Phoenix Coyotes (15-11-1 for 31 points. Tied for seventh in the West, third in the Pacific).

When

7:30 p.m. Mountain time and 9:30 p.m. Eastern time. All other time zones should accept a bad role.

Where

Jobing.com Arena, Glendale, Arizona.
Calgary is 10-1-3 on the road this year, and haven’t lost on the road since Oct. 13. The Coyotes are 8-5-0 at home, and have won their last two in Arizona.

What (to hate about the Coyotes)

Dave Tippett — Why oh why, Dave Tippett, did you have to go and get hired by the Coyotes? You made Phoenix into a couple of things that I don’t like, such as "difficult to beat," "defensively responsible," and "kinda boring but in an oddly fun way."
Matthew Lombardi, Adrian Aucoin, Jim Vandermeer — WHY CAN’T THE FLAMES GET GUYS LIKE THAT hahahahaha oh my.
Zbynek Michalek — This guy is one of those defensemen I personally love to watch play. He’s so good at the little things, and does pretty much everything you’d ever want a defenseman to do (except score, I guess). He blocks more shots than pretty much everyone. It’s awesome. So why should you hate him? He’s not on the Flames, of course.

Why

Because BOURQUE IS BACK. Enjoy the game and write love notes to him in the comments section.
