Welcome to the Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s 45th game of the season on Jan. 9, 2010.

So last night I covered yet another hockey game at Fenway Park, which explains the lack of a GDFD. But c’mon, Jamie Lundmark was on the top line with Curtis McElhinney in net. Of course they lost.

And what’s that you say? You say the Flames are playing the Canucks tonight? Great. That’s great.

The Canucks are going to destroy Calgary. Do you know how many goals Alex Burrows has in his last three games? Seven. That’s how many. Seven goals in three games. Know who else has seven goals in their last three games? Not the Calgary Flames! They have six. So an entire hockey team has fewer goals in its last three games than Alex Burrows. I can’t even begin to understand how that’s possible.

This game is between the two top teams in the Northwest Division — as both have 55 points — but come on, the Flames are playing their 33rd back-to-back game in 35 days. It’s pretty tough to have expectations about this one.

The Calgary Flames (25-14-5 for 55 points. Tied for fourth in the West, tied for first in the Northwest) and the Vancouver Canucks (27-16-1 for 43 points. Tied for fourth in the West, tied for first in the Northwest).

Calgary is 13-6-3 on the road this year, and have dropped two straight to very beatable teams. The Canucks are 18-6-0 at home and have won four straight there.

Line consistency — Unless someone was injured, their top line has been pretty much the same since the start of the season. What a novel idea that is!

Henrik Sedin — Henrik Sedin leads the NHL in points. It’s true. More than everyone in the league. He has 61 points in 44 games. The next closest guy is some bum called Joe Thornton, who is three points back. Of Henrik Sedin, the most valuable hockey player in the NHL this year.

Roberto Luongo — Because he is almost certainly going to get a shutout tonight.
