Upset about the Flames’ loss to the Sharks? Well, the Stockton Heat got a little payback for the Flames organization by beating their AHL affiliate on the same night. The Heat peppered the net with shots and scored three to beat the San Jose Barracuda by a score of 3-1.

Good things come in threes

Three goals? Three goalscorers. The third goal for Kevin Gravel and third assist of Dustin Wolf. It was a game of threes and three was enough to win this game. However, it did not start that way. The Barracuda beat the Heat to the scoreboard in this game but their scoring efforts were unable to continue beyond that.
The San Jose shooter beat Dustin Wolf with a quick shot off the draw.
Matthew Phillips answered back about 10 minutes later with his 25th goal of the season. He broke off into the Barracuda zone, circled around and buried his own rebound.
That score carried through the first and second periods and this game stayed tied up at one for just over 40 minutes. The Heat broke the two-period scoring drought off a goal from Justin Kirkland. Juuso Valimaki took a shot from the blue line and Kirkland put the rebound past the Barracuda netminder.
Kevin Gravel concluded the scoring for the night later in the third with an empty-netter Dustin Wolf actually picked up an assist on.
Even with the Heat being the winning team, San Jose goaltender, Zachary Sawchenko earned the first star of the night and it was well-earned. He stopped 40 of 42 Heat shots and had it not been for some borderline unbeatable rebounds, this game could’ve been a lot closer than the scoresheet showed.
Also making it to the three-star recognition was Justin Kirkland with his game-winning goal. The Heat will have a couple more games against the Barracuda next week for a two-game weekend series that will wrap up their season series.

Record chasers and breakers

The 2021-22 Heat squad is in the midst of one of their best seasons in franchise history. That is happening due to some exceptional individual and team efforts. This is resulting in some records breaking and others approaching new all-time highs. Here are the latest updates after this game.
  • Matthew Phillips ties the single-season scoring record with his 57th point
  • Dustin Wolf’s assist breaks the record for goaltender assists in a single season
  • Stockton’s current 79 points breaks the previous club record of 77
With just over a month to play in the regular season, there are sure to be some more updates to this list.
