The Stockton Heat have officially announced a trio of American League contract signings. The club has signed college defender Greg Moro to a two year deal, while WHLers Noah King and Koletrane Wilson have signed one year pacts.
Moro’s signing was previously reported by Mike McMahon of College Hockey News. The 24-year-old just finished his senior year at Clarkson University – Craig Conroy’s college – where he served as an alternate captain. The 6’4′, 207 pound right-shooting blueliner had seven points in 32 games.
King, 20, is a left shot defender formerly of the Swift Current Broncos and Spokane Chiefs. He had 40 points last season for Spokane, good for 20th among all WHL defensemen, and was teammates with Stockton forward Glenn Gawdin with the 2018 WHL Championship-winning Broncos. He’s 6’4″ and 220 pounds and served as an alternate captain with the Chiefs.
Wilson, 20, is a right shot defender formerly of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He had 33 points for the Canes last season, good for 26th in the Dub in defensive scoring. He’s 6’3″ and 220 pounds and served as an alternate captain with the Hurricanes.
In terms of probable AHL bodies – folks that don’t have to go through waivers to be Stockton-bound – here’s how the Flames/Heat bodies stack up right now:
Left ShotsRight Shots
Connor Mackey (6’2″ / 183 lbs)Alexander Yelesin (5’11” / 192 lbs)
Colton Poolman (6’1″ / 194 lbs)Greg Moro [AHL] (6’4″ / 207 lbs)
Juuso Valimaki (6’2″ / 205 lbs)Koletrane Wilson [AHL] (6’3″ / 220 lbs)
Carl-Johan Lerby (5’11” / 176 lbs)
Noah King [AHL] (6’4″ / 220 lbs)
It seems probable that one of Mackey, Poolman or Valimaki will start with the Flames, barring other moves or signings.
