Friends, the Calgary Flames have announced their opening 22 player roster, and they begin their season on Thursday night against the Colorado Avalanche. The team has changed quite a bit over the past off-season, so here’s a quick snapshot of just who everybody is on the opening roster.

#3 – Connor Mackey (LD)

26 years old; from Tower Lakes, Illinois
$912,500 AAV; will be Group 6 unrestricted free agent following this season (unless he plays 71 NHL games, then he’ll be a restricted free agent)

Coaching staff and management

The head coach is Darryl Sutter (64; Viking, Alberta), who won Stanley Cups with Los Angeles in 2012 and 2014. He’s entering his third season as Flames head coach in this current stint (and seventh with the Flames as coach overall). He won the Jack Adams Award as the league’s top coach last season.

The assistant coaches are Kirk Muller (56; Kingston, Ontario), Ryan Huska (47; Cranbrook, B.C.), Cail MacLean (46; Middleton, Nova Scotia), Jason LaBarbera (42; Burnaby, B.C.) and Jamie Pringle (47; Picton, Ontario). Broadly-speaking, Muller runs forwards and the power play, Huska runs defence and the penalty kill, MacLean is the “eye-in-the-sky” and advises on in-game adjustments, LaBarbera is the goalie coach, and Pringle is the video coach.

The general manager is Brad Treliving (53; Penticton, B.C.), who’s entering his ninth season as Flames GM. His assistants are Brad Pascall (52; Coquitlam, B.C.), Craig Conroy (51; Potsdam, New York) and Chris Snow (41; Melrose, Mass.)
