The Calgary Flames will be looking to pad their lead over the Vancouver Canucks in the race for third place in the Pacific Division standings when they host the New York Islanders on Thursday as -145 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary is coming off a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights as a -110 bet last time out on Sunday night, but maintains a narrow one-point lead over the Canucks in the division standings going into Thursday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Islanders at Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Flames opened their current five-game homestand with victories over Columbus and Arizona, but have continued to be wildly inconsistent on home ice, posting wins in just three of their past 10, dumping their home record on the season to a shaky 16-13-4. And even when the Flames earn the win on home ice, it has been by the narrowest of margins, with five of their past six home victories coming by just a single goal.
Calgary’s lack of home dominance has also impacted its position on the NHL futures. Set as a respectable +2500 bet on the Stanley Cup odds less than two weeks ago, the Flames have failed to maintain any momentum at the sportsbooks, where they now lag at a distant +4000.
But while the Flames have struggled to find a high gear going into the final weeks of the regular season, their woes pale in comparison to the Islanders, who ride a seven-game losing streak into Thursday night’s contest as +125 underdogs at betting sites.
The Islanders opened their current four-game road trip with a 5-4 loss in Vancouver as +105 underdogs on Tuesday, and have now fallen to defeat in 11 of their past 13 contests. New York’s current stretch of futility has been marked by seven straight road losses, and has put a big dent in the team’s playoff chances. With their early-season battle with Washington for top spot in the division a distant memory, the Islanders now lag outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture, one point back of Carolina and Columbus in the hunt for a wild card.
And if the Islanders are to resurrect their fading playoff hopes, they will need to rediscover their offensive touch. The team has been outscored by a wide 42-26 margin during its current 2-7-4 run, and has fared no better against the Flames, falling to defeat in four of five overall meetings since November 2016.
