Jon Gillies Named Hockey East Goalie Of Year

The end of the collegiate hockey season brings with it the collegiate hockey awards, and despite Johnny Gaudreau graduating onto NHL stardom, the Calgary Flames are once again represented.

Providence College goaltender Jon Gillies was named Hockey East’s Stop It Goaltending Champion, the league’s individual award for goaltenders. He’ll receive his honour at the conference’s awards banquet tomorrow evening.

Gillies, 21, played 35 games in his junior season with the Friars. He went 20-13-2, with a 1.95 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. He was Calgary’s third round selection, 75th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. He led the conference in goals against average, save percentage and was tied with Boston University’s Matt O’Connor for the lead in wins.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he was named to one of the conference all-star teams tomorrow evening, in addition to this award.
