Jacob Markström keeps racking up the shutouts in his second year with the Calgary Flames.
The 31-year-old goaltender made 27 saves in a 5-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. He’s now just five shy of tying Miikka Kiprusoff’s record for most shutouts in a single season.
In an unusual oddity, the Flames’ last five wins have all been shutouts. Markström has recorded four of those clean sheets, with Dan Vladar picking up one of his own in Calgary’s 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 14.
@Andrew Mangiapane and @Johnny Gaudreau both scored twice for Calgary on Thursday, with @Matthew Tkachuk also beating Sabres goaltender @Dustin Tokarski in the second period. @Aaron Dell replaced Tokarski in net for Buffalo for the final 20 minutes.
Five of Markström’s six wins this season have been shutouts. He’s now 6-3-4 on the season with five shutouts and a .942 save percentage.
The Flames now have points in 14 of their 17 games this season and lead the Pacific Division with a 9-3-5 record. They’ll return to action on Nov. 20 to help the New York Islanders christen the brand-new UBS Arena on Long Island.
