Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markström erased two zeroes in his individual 2021–22 stat-line with a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
Markström, 31, picked up both his first win and first shutout of the 2021–22 season with his 33-save performance in Detroit. He now has 133 wins and nine shutouts in his 12-season NHL career.
He especially kept the Red Wings at bay in the second and third periods, with his most impressive stop of the night coming against @Nick Leddy early in the middle frame.
With the win, Markström improved to 1-1-1 this season with a .924 save percentage and one clean sheet. He went 22-19-2 with a .904 and three shutouts in his debut go-round in Calgary last year.
@Elias Lindholm, @Andrew Mangiapane, and @Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Flames in the victory on Thursday. The Red Wings out-shot the Flames 33-29 in all situations and won the 5-on-5 expected goals battle 2.04 to 1.15 (according to Natural Stat Trick).
After his perfect night, Markström was named the game’s first star. He’ll likely man the pipes for the Flames for the fourth time this season when they take on the Washington Capitals at 11:00 a.m. MT on Oct. 23.
