Entering the third Battle of Alberta of the season, Mikael Backlund had 298 points. With a deft assist to Oliver Kylington and a beautiful goal off of a turnover he himself caught, he made it to 300 points in his his 589th game.
First, the assist for career point 299:
And then, the followup. Backlund’s known as a shutdown centre, and one who’s typically good for about 40-50 points a season. Why not combine the defensive specialty with some offensive talent?
Backlund is the second longest tenured member of the Flames, after only Mark Giordano. It’s wonderful to see him hit such a milestone with the team he came up in.
