Post-Sim Wrap-Up: Flames lose to Islanders 4-3
By Ryan Pike
4 years agoJust 24 hours after their virtual victory in Madison Square Garden, the simulated Calgary Flames headed up Long Island to face the New York Islanders in a special St. Patrick’s Day game.
Playing their second game in as many nights, the Flames ran out of gas and suffered a 4-3 loss.
Lineups
Flames:
- Forwards: Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm, Mangiapane-Backlund-Tkachuk, Lucic-Ryan-Dube, Bennett-Jankowski-Rieder
- Defense: Giordano-Brodie, Hanifin-Hamonic, Gustafsson-Andersson
- Goalies: Rittich starting, Talbot as backup
Given that it’s a back-to-back situation, David Rittich gets his first start in a little while.
Islanders:
- Forwards: Lee-Barzal-Eberle, Ladd-Nelson-Bailey, Beauvillier-Pageau-Komarov, Martin-Brassard-Clutterbuck
- Defense: Leddy-Pulock, Toews-Mayfield, Greene-Dobson
- Goalies: Varlamov starting, with Greiss as backup
Results
The Flames chased early, but managed to battle back to tie things up. But they couldn’t get to the second intermission tied, and as a result they couldn’t quite muster enough offense to capture two points on the road.
Rebound control was a common issue for both goaltenders.
