Quips and Quotes: Flames beat Blackhawks 5-3

The Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks by a 5-3 score on Saturday night. Here are selected reactions from players and coaches following the game.

Saturday’s night’s victory was the fifth time the Flames captured two points after trailing through two periods. Following the game, head coach Bill Peters expressed confidence in his team’s ability to generate a lot of good scoring chances in the final frame.

Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk liked the way the team played overall and the team’s response in the final 20 minutes.

“We’ve had a few come from behind so far this year, tonight was no different,” said Tkachuk. “Like I said, it was weird that we were behind in the game after two, playing the way we did. Especially I thought we had a good start. And sometimes that’s the way it goes. But I liked our response in the third. We dominated, definitely, in the third.”

Peters had a quick update on Dillon Dube, who left the game following a Duncan Keith hit in the first period.

“I think he’s going to be okay, I really do,” said Peters. “I think it was the right call to keep him out. He went through the protocol. So he’ll enter a concussion protocol now. Ended up with a few stitches, don’t know the details on that. Seen him in the room after, he was smiling, giggling. So I’m sure he’s fine, but you know how that goes, too. We’ll see how he does in the next 48 hours.”

For the curious, the NHL’s concussion protocol document notes: “Club Medical Personnel shall follow up with the Player 24-48 hours after an incident where there was a clinical suspicion of concussion to inquire whether any concussion symptoms have subsequently developed.” While it sounds like Dube’s out of the woods, the league’s protocol is designed to err on the side of caution.
