The Calgary Flames beat the Boston Bruins by a 5-2 score on Wednesday night. Here are selected reactions from players following the game.
“It was kinda an awkward moment because I wasn’t sure if it was mine or Benny’s. I didn’t celly too hard.” – Flames rookie Juuso Valimaki on his first NHL goal (and not being sure if it was his goal until he got back to the bench).
“We want to be a top team, and I think to do so we have to string together some wins and ultimately beat the top teams. Anybody can beat teams that are out of it or are just playing… I know at the end of the season some of those games are just awful games when you’re playing against teams that are completely out of it. You want to play against the teams where you’re fighting for top of the league or top of the conference, those are the games that you want to fight for and it starts now.” – Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk on his team’s performance against Boston.
“We changed the structure a little bit this year. We got new coaches, so we changed a few things there. We’re still learning on that, but I think guys did a pretty good job there. That was a big key of the game, going to five on three in the third when you’re two goals down. That was huge and that was a big job for our guys.” – Flames forward Michael Frolik on his team’s penalty kill.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do, in my opinion. We’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve got a lot of work to do in multiple areas. Our power play’s obviously bogged down a little bit here tonight. Three versus five, we’ve had two with extended time we haven’t done enough with. We’ve got to look at the structure of that three versus five power play, the personnel, we’ve got to make changes. We’re not going to keep doing the same thing if we’re not getting positive results.” – Flames head coach Bill Peters assesses some areas of potential improvement for his team.
