The Calgary Flames beat the New York Rangers by a 5-1 score on Friday night. Here are selected reactions from players and coaches following the game.

Tkachuk’s sweet Hail Mary pass

The Flames never trailed in this game, and Matthew Tkachuk was red-hot on the evening. The highlight of his night was definitely a football style “Hail Mary” pass up the middle of the ice from beside the Flames net right to Johnny Gaudreau.
Several teammates praised Tkachuk’s vision on the pass, including linemate Michael Frolik.
“I think he saw with his eyes that Johnny was leaving the zone,” said Frolik. “That flip pass was crazy… Johnny made a nice move there. Great vision, great pass, and a great play.”
Flames head coach Bill Peters praised the overall play of Tkachuk’s line (with Frolik and Mikael Backlund).
They’re hard on pucks. That line is real good here the last three games, they’re feeling it in the offensive zone. They’re holding onto pucks, they’re finding each other, and they’re relentless. They’re reloading and working hard when they don’t have it in order to get it back, so I think they’re playing the majority of their shift with the puck.

Game management

The Flames had a dramatic win over New Jersey on Tuesday in a game that really shouldn’t have been that dramatic. Against a depleted Rangers club, the Flames scored first, regained the lead in the second period and never allowed the visitors back into it.
Even missing Sean Monahan for two-thirds of the game, the result of this one was never really in much doubt.
“I thought we did a good job in the third period,” said Peters. “Came into the period, wanted it to be our best period of the night. I think it was.”
