Quips and Quotes: Flames beat the Ducks 6-1

5 years ago The Calgary Flames beat the Anaheim Ducks by a 6-1 score on Friday night. Here are selected reactions from players and coaches following the game.
The offense is back
After a two game vacation, the Flames found their scoring touch and played well overall. Five different players scored goals, 12 different players had point and every single skater except Mark Jankowski registered a shot.
Following the game, Flames head coach Bill Peters praised his team for the type of goals they scored – firing shots on the goaltender and driving the net for rebounds.
We talked about it enough and showed some video on it. The guys know. The guys are a very honest group and they’re a group that cares and they want to do it right. And they got to work here today and I thought they did a good job making the zone big in the offensive zone. I thought in the third period the line that really got us going was the Backlund line. The shift that they had, it didn’t end up in the net, but it turned the momentum of the period and I thought we were obviously pretty good from that point on.
Did Neal tip the third goal?
Sean Monahan scored late in the third period, leading to several fans throwing hats. It was odd, because Monahan didn’t have a hat trick. The controversy on this evening rested on the third goal, scored on the power play, as the puck was propelled past Ducks netminder Ryan Miller by Monahan.
But both Monahan and Peters were under the impression that James Neal got the shaft of his stick on the shot.
“He was at the net on the power play,” said Peters. “I think they ended up changing that. I know it went off his shaft, I don’t know if he got credit for it.”
Neal joked that he ruined Monahan’s hat trick after the game, but praised his young teammate for how well he played.
Difficult lineup decisions loom
Sam Bennett’s about ready to return from his injury. Michael Stone, Oscar Fantenberg and Oliver Kylington are biding their time, too. With the prospect of being pushed to the sidelines looming, Austin Czarnik had a strong game and Dalton Prout had a rock solid game with TJ Brodie.
“You know what, we do have some good decisions to make and they’re hard decisions to make,” admitted Peters. “But a lot of thought will go into them. Not only there, but I thought Prouter was good. He came in and he was moving the puck and he was physical. It’s good to have options.”
