The Calgary Flames lost to the Los Angeles Kings by a 4-1 score on Saturday night. Here are selected reactions from after the game.

‘We weren’t invested in the game’

Flames head coach Bill Peters had a pretty blunt assessment of his team’s struggles in this game.
We weren’t good enough. We weren’t good enough at all. Not a lot of puck play out the middle. I didn’t think we had too many centers going, to be honest with you. I didn’t see guys being strong down low or making too many plays. That’s right across the board. We weren’t invested in the game and we got what we deserved.

Missing bodies in the third period

Asked about the weird lines in the third period, Peters demurred and pointed how that he as missing a pair of forwards.
“Well, I didn’t have four lines,” said Peters. “I had no Chucky, I had no Bennett. I had 10 forwards, so the lines were all over the map. You can put any designation of a number you want on any of the lines.”
Tkachuk got a 10 minute misconduct midway through the third period, but Sam Bennett mysteriously disappeared from the game five minutes into the third. It’s unclear as to why, but presumably it was injury-related. With the Flames without any extra forwards and only carrying Michael Stone as a healthy extra, it’ll be interesting to see what they end up doing.

The loss wasn’t on Rittich

Asked about the logic behind pulling David Rittich after two periods and four goals, Peters shut down any notion of the loss being on him. Cam Talbot was scheduled to play Sunday in Anaheim and was able to get a bit of work in before his start (in a game that was already out of hand).
