The Calgary Wranglers followed up a tough 3-1 loss on Friday night with an afternoon game against the Henderson Silver Knights on Saturday. Unfortunately, they didn’t have much more luck against their opponents as they lost 4-2. The Silver Knights are now the only team in the league to have a perfect record against the Wranglers and this is the first time the Wranglers have lost consecutive games since the start of the season back in October.

Game at a glance

Radim Zohorna rejoined the Wranglers lineup for this game in Henderson, NV. This was his first game with them since Dec. 3. He played in eight games with the Flames over the last month and a bit but did not put up any points. His scoring didn’t go quiet in his first game back with the Wranglers though, as he was the first to open up the scoring quite early in the game.
3:48 into the game, Zohorna was in the right place right time to tip in a pass from Matthew Phillips. Emilio Pettersen also picked up an assist.
The Silver Knights answered back later in the period just shy of the midway mark and tied things up. The Wranglers got their lead back before the opening frame ended with a goal by Emilio Pettersen. Nicolas Meloche and Matthew Phillips picked up assists.
The first period ended in a good position for the Wranglers with them being up 2-1 and just trailing in shots 14-12. They fell behind a bit in the second period with Henderson netting a pair of goals to take the lead for the first time in this game.
The first goal of the second came from Gage Quinney just 2:02 into the period. The next came 9:26 into the second and just like that, the Silver Knights were up 3-2. After the second period came to a close, the Silver Knights were also ahead 30-25 in shots.
In the third, the Wranglers had a little bit of a push to try and get a goal back to at least force the game out of regulation, but it was not enough. They put up the least amount of shots in the third period with only nine and were not successful in their scoring efforts.
They pulled Dustin Wolf with 2:18 to go for the extra attacker and the Silver Knights scored on the empty net about a minute later. That pretty well put the game away with the Silver Knights winning 4-2. Shots finished even at 34.
This was only Wolf’s fifth loss despite playing 27 games this season so far. This series will be a good one for this team to look back on and reference when they face challenges later this season. They’re also going to want to get a few games back on Henderson in their next meeting. They will play each other again later this month on Jan. 28.

Next up

The Wranglers will have a few days to regroup before they start a three-game road series against the Abbotsford Canucks. Their next game will be on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. MT.
