The latest edition of Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts has been published by our friends at Sportsnet. This edition has shed light on a signing that almost came to pass involving the Calgary Flames and yet another Russian import, forward Sergei Andronov.
18. Sergei Andronov, a 29-year-old winger who played at KHL CSKA Moscow, informed interested NHL teams on Friday that he will stay in Russia. A 2009 St. Louis draft pick who spent two years in the AHL, Andronov got a better offer overseas. Calgary, Columbus and Toronto were among interested parties.
Andronov has spent virtually his entire professional career in the Kontinental Hockey League – he’s played with Lada Togliatti and CSKA Moscow – aside from two decent seasons in the AHL. But aside from those two seasons he’s spent basically his entire hockey career close to home and it makes sense that if he got a decent offer he’d probably stay there.
In 48 games last year as CSKA’s captain, Andronov had 12 points.
