The Calgary Flames may be getting some good news on the injury front.
According to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger on Tuesday’s edition of Insider Trading, Flames winger Kris Versteeg is expected to be skating in “10-to-14 days” and that could pave the way for a return in “early-to-mid March.”
Versteeg, 31, has been out since late November with a lingering hip issue. He underwent surgery in early December to resolve a labrum issue, but has been doing his rehab in Calgary. Estimates for recovery from labrum surgery are generally in the four-to-six months range, and a mid-March return would be roughly four months after surgery.
Michael Frolik is also skating with the team with a yellow no-contact jersey and a full face shield after taking a Brent Burns slapshot to the face in late December and undergoing jaw surgery. He’s expected to be back sometime after the All-Star Break, which would be in early February.
In Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts this week, he had this report on the Flames’ trade hopes:
9. Calgary was on the lookout for a winger, but the Flames are pulling back. Micheal Ferland’s got 19 goals, Michael Frolik is getting healthy and there is increasing hope Kris Versteeg will be an option, too.
With Versteeg and Frolik seemingly on their way back to the Flames lineup, the pressure to add to the group is definitely lessened.
