On Tuesday, the Calgary Flames officially unveiled Craig Conroy as their new general manager. On Tuesday’s edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger noted that the Toronto Maple Leafs won’t be doing a broad search to find a new GM. They’ve already focused on former Flames GM Brad Treliving.
Dreger noted: “I believe that they’ve engaged with Brad Treliving, so the process is underway.”
Treliving was the GM in Calgary from April 2014 until parting ways with the club back on April 17 after they were unable to come to an agreement on a new deal. Treliving is under contract with the Flames until the end of June, but he was given permission by the club to explore opportunities prior to the expiry of his contract. (Per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, that wasn’t originally their stance.)
The Leafs have a GM opening due to the departure of incumbent GM Kyle Dubas, who parted ways with them in advance of his own contract expiry on June 30. It does definitely appear that we could see a bit of GM musical chairs involving Canadian NHL teams.
