In a bit of an odd scheduling quirk, the Calgary Flames are off tonight entirely and don’t play again until Monday night at the Shark Tank.
In the meantime, here’s your guide to tonight’s contests with Flames playoff implications.
  • Dallas (54 points, 7 back of Calgary) plays Buffalo. The Sabres are not a good team. This is as close to a guaranteed win as the Stars will face. If they show up.
  • In tonight’s installment of “Let’s just hope it ends in regulation,” the Colorado Avalanche (55 points, 6 back of Calgary) face the Minnesota Wild (54 points, 7 back of Calgary). Devan Dubnyk continues his torrid pace, which almost certainly will end with a big course correction of goals against. But when? Regardless, until it does, I’m slightly favouring a Wild win here.
  • One day after handing the Flames a loss, the Penguins go to Vancouver to face the Canucks (59 points, 2 back of Calgary). Pittsburgh is the better team here, but playing back to back games with travel often sucks the life out of a club, so you never know, Vancouver could win here.
  • And finally, San Jose (63 points, 2 up on Calgary) face Carolina at the Shark Tank. Carolina is not great and this should be a simple 2 points if the Sharks bother to show up.
Best-Case Scenario: Buffalo, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Carolina win
Likely Scenario: Dallas, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and San Jose win
