The Calgary Flames will be looking to rebound from Friday’s 2-1 loss in Montreal when they play host to the Ottawa Senators on Monday night as -210 home favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary’s loss in the second date of last week’s two-game road series with the Canadiens put the brakes on a three-game win streak, and leaves the team lagging six points back of fourth-place Montreal going into Monday night’s matchup at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Senators vs Flames | OddsShark Matchup Report
Despite Friday’s defeat there has been lots to like about Calgary’s recent play. The Flames appear to have embraced head coach Darryl Sutter’s defense-first philosophy. The team has limited opposing shooters to just five total goals during its current 3-1-0 run, which marks a major turnaround after surrendering 17 total goals over its preceding four-game slide.
The Flames still have work to do, though, to boost their sagging fortunes on home ice. Calgary’s recent 5-0 rout of the Edmonton Oilers marked just its second win in seven home dates. That win also marked just the second time in their past eight home dates that they held an opponent to fewer than three goals.
But while the Flames’ recent win streak featured victories over three opponents firmly situated in the playoff picture, they have struggled this season against last-place Ottawa. Calgary scored just two total goals while getting swept in a two-game road series last month at the Canadian Tire Centre, and has picked up just two wins in seven clashes with the Senators so far this season.
Overall, the Flames have scored just five times in total during their current three-game losing streak against Ottawa, and have been limited to two or fewer goals in five of this season’s seven meetings between the two teams.
While the Flames look to keep pace with Montreal in the race for the final playoff spot in the North Division, the Senators will be looking to build on this past weekend’s big win over the Canadiens when they hit the ice on Monday as +175 underdogs at sports betting sites. The Senators provided Calgary with a huge assist with their 4-0 beatdown of the Canadiens on Saturday night, and have now posted wins in two of their past three contests.
However, road victories have been rare for Ottawa this season. With just three wins in their past 12 away contests, the Senators now sport an NHL-worst 6-16-0 road record. And despite their steady success against the Flames this season, Ottawa has still managed to tally just four wins in 15 visits to Calgary since January 2003.
