Throwback Thursday: This week in 1989, Doug Gilmour and Al MacInnis post three assists each as Calgary Flames beat Chicago Blackhawks

This week in 1989 (May 6), Doug Gilmour and Al MacInnis each potted three assists as the Calgary Flames took down the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 in game three of the conference finals.

The Flames, of course, went on to win their lone Stanley Cup that year after posting their best regular season in NHL history with a 54-17-9 record.

Joe Mullen led the way offensively scoring 51 goals and 110 points, while Hakan Loob and Doug Gilmour both put up 85 points.

Calgary cruised through the Vancouver Canucks and the LA Kings in the first two rounds before meeting with Chicago in the third round.

In that 5-2 game, Mullen kicked things off at the 4:11 mark of the first with Joe Nieuwendyk scoring at the 14:57 mark of that frame. The two clubs traded goals in the second period, where Chicago got both their goals, with Calgary closing out the third frame with Loob and Mullen goals.

Things got heated in the final minute of the game as 110 PIM were handed out at the 20:00 mark of the final frame.
