Throwback Thursday: Two years ago today, Jarome Iginla announces retirement

It was two years ago today that Jarome Iginla announced his retirement from the NHL.

The Calgary Flames legend finished his career with 625 goals and 1300 points in 1554 career games. And just last month, Iginla found himself elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Flames all-time leading scorer with 1095 points, Iginla was also a crucial piece to Canadian gold medal wins in 2002 and 2010. Iginla is set to be enshrined in the Hall this November.

Iginla was also named as the top player in team history by FlamesNation in May. His 14 20+ goal seasons and 11 consecutive 30 goal years were a big part of it. Iginla beat out Al Macinnis (No. 2), Mark Giordano (No. 3), Theo Fleury (No. 4) and Joe Nieuwendyk (No. 5) for the title.

He had a great NHL career arriving in Calgary in a December 1995 trade alongside Corey Millen for Joe Nieuwendyk. It was a passing of the guard for the Flames and likely the most important trade in franchise history. Iginla left Calgary in March 2013 when he was traded to Pittsburgh for Ben Hanowski, Kenny Agostino and a 2013 first-round pick (Morgan Klimchuk).
