On Tuesday, the National Hockey League kicked off with three games.
Since then, there has been a ton of news, such as players re-signing and a postponement.
Let’s dig into all of that in the latest Around the NHL!

For the second time in under a month, the Tampa Bay Lightning have had a game postponed. This time, it’s the Oct. 12 game against the Carolina Hurricanes due to Hurricane Milton.

Hurricane Milton was a dangerous one, becoming a Category 5 storm rapidly. It touched down in the Tampa region late on Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of 13 people in a recent count. Less importantly, it caused extensive damage, including ripping off the roof of the Tampa Bay Rays’ Tropicana Field.
In late Sept., a preseason game between the Lightning and the Nashville Predators was postponed to the day before the season started due to Hurricane Helene. However, the makeup date for the regular season game has yet to be determined.
Joey Daccord re-signs
The Seattle Kraken have locked down one of their netminders, as they agreed to a five-year, $25 million extension with Joey Daccord.

Daccord, a Massachusetts native, was great in 2023-24, posting a .916 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average in 50 games played, along with a 19-18-11 record. Daccord, 28, was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 draft by the Senators and played three seasons at Arizona State University before turning professional.
Before the 2023-24 season, Daccord played a combined 19 games from the 2018-19 season until 2022-23 where he had an .884 save percentage and a 3.64 goals-against average with the Ottawa Senators and the Kraken.
The Kraken will likely use Daccord and Philipp Grubauer as a tandem that shares the crease. Grubauer is currently in year four of his six-year deal.
Carter Verhaeghe extended
Speaking of extensions, the reigning, defending, undisputed Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, have signed Carter Verhaeghe to an eight-year extension worth $56 million.

8 years x $7 million = $56 million
A whopping $48 million of the deal comes in signing bonus, making his base salary $1 million per season. Big commitment from Cats.

Verhaeghe was selected in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs but was traded in 2015 to the New York Islanders for Michael Grabner. Eventually, the Islanders traded him to the Tampa Bay Lightning, making his National Hockey League debut in 2019-20.
That season, the left winger scored nine goals and 13 points in 52 games, along with two assists in eight postseason games. He then signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers before the start of the 2020-21 season, scoring 18 goals and 36 points in 43 games in his first season.
Verhaeghe then signed a three-year extension, scoring a career-high 42 goals and 73 points in 81 games with the Panthers in 2022-23, along with 34 goals and 72 points in 76 games last season.
