There’s been a ton of injuries just two weeks into the 2024-25 season.
On Monday alone, there were three players were reportedly injured, with one being placed on the long-term injured list, one being week-to-week, and another being day-to-day.
Let’s take a look at that in the latest Around the NHL.
Vince Dunn placed on long-term injured reserve
On Monday evening, the Seattle Kraken’s PR team on Twitter announced that Vince Dunn was placed on the long-term injured reserve, with the team calling up Cale Fleury.

The left-shot defenceman was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft by the St. Louis Blues. He made his debut in 2017-18, scoring five goals and 24 points. In 2018-19, he scored 12 goals and 35 points in 78 games, as the Blues won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Dunn played two more seasons with the Blues, before being selected by the Kraken in the expansion draft.
This season, Dunn scored a goal and three points in four games before the injury. Last season, he scored 11 goals and 46 points in 59 games, along with a career-best 14 goals and 64 points in 81 games in 2022-23.
Victor Olofsson week-to-week
Sticking with Pacific Division expansion teams, the Vegas Golden Knights will be without Victor Olofsson, as head coach Bruce Cassidy announced he is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Olofsson was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. In six seasons with the team, he scored 90 goals and 182 points in 314 games, along with a career-high 28 goals in 2022-23 and a career-high 49 points in 2021-22.
After a season in which he scored just seven goals and 15 points in 51 games, Olofsson signed a one-year deal with the Golden Knights. It’s a good low-risk, high-reward type of deal for the 2023 Stanley Cup champions, as Olofsson scored three goals in four games before the injury.
Alexis Lafrenière day-to-day
The New York Rangers will be without Alexis Lafrenière for a handful of days, as he is reportedly out with an upper-body injury.

Lafrenière was selected first overall in the 2020 draft, making his debut a few months later where he scored 12 goals and 21 points in 56 games. His scoring bumped up slightly in 2021-22, potting 19 goals and 31 points in 79 games, along with two goals and nine points in 20 post-season games.
His third year in the league didn’t see the production you’d expect from a first-overall pick, as he scored 16 goals and a career-high 39 points. However, Lafrenière broke out in 2023-24, scoring 28 goals and 56 points in 82 games, along with eight goals and 14 points in 16 postseason games.
Before his injury, Lafrenière had three goals and six points and is a key member of the defending Presidents’ Trophy winners.
