The Dallas Stars came to town, showed Calgary who was in charge, and left, defeating the Flames by a 6-1 score.
CF% – 32.77%|| SCF% – 27.36%|| HDCF% – 22.94%|| xGF% – 28.12%
It’s a Team Game – From the moment the puck was dropped the Dallas Stars looked like the better team. Possession of the puck, scoring chances, and shot attempts all ended with a massive advantage for Dallas. High danger scoring chances were 20-6 in favour of the visitors as well. It is very rare for the Flames to surrender that much to their opponent, but as the team sheds pieces the more experienced teams should be the ones to take advantage. It was a rough night to be a Flames fan at the ‘dome, not a lot went their way.
Corsi King – Zayne Parekh (46.98%) finished with the best results of any Flames player. The Stars got a few goals off some lucky bounces, but Parekh only ever happened to be out for a single goal against. He was also over the boards when Morgan Frost (35.63 per cent) scored his google giving him an even rating on the day. In a 6-1 loss, that’s quite noticeable. In terms of shot attempts nobody finished with a greater than 50% ratio. Over 80% of the team was below 40% – just very one-sided.
Under Pressure –

Taken By Chance – So there were 6 high danger chances, correct? While Zayne Parekh (47.68 SCF% // 42.01 HDCF%) was involved in helping to get 4 of those. A clear separation from him above the rest of the pack in terms of offensive involvement. This is the kind of stuff I’m hoping to see more regularly. His confidence along the blueline is growing and the coaching staff are going to start having to give him more ice time. He looked like his old self making moves on the blueline today – some more experience and he’s going to start piling up points.
xG Breakdown –

xGF% – Parekh (50.73 per cent) clearly stood as the top Flame. MacKenzie Weegar (26.88 per cent) got walked by Matt Duchene and was caught out of position often. Zach Whitecloud (7.77 per cent) also saw his defensive magic come to an end. The overwhelming talent and skill of the Stars was too much for this roster to handle. Even without Mikko Rantanen they deserve to be held in the same esteem as the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild. The best of the west.

In The Crease – Hey one great thing about this season is I’ve barely had to comment on the goaltending being bad. Whether it was Wolf or Cooley the goaltending is typically decent enough to point fingers elsewhere in thee lineup. While the defence was atrocious in this game, both goaltenders weren’t themselves either. Wolf gets a courtesy pull after some crazy deflections early leave him down by 3 and unfortunately Cooley couldn’t keep the score from getting out of hand. The Star did pot 4 goals at 5v5 in just over 3 expected goals against – not terrible, just not normal for this tandem.
The Goals –
Flash’s 3 Stars –
1) Zayne Parekh
2) Morgan Frost
3) Adam Klapka
