It’s an early start on a holiday Monday at the Saddledome! The Calgary Flames (26-19-11, 63 points) host the visiting Philadelphia Flyers (22-25-10, 54 points) in a clash of teams that play an awful lot of overtime games.
The broadcast begins at 2 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West, Sportsnet One and Sportsnet 960 The Fan!

The Flames

Projected lines courtesy Daily Faceoff:
Dube – Lindholm – Toffoli
Pelletier – Kadri – Huberdeau
Mangiapane – Backlund – Coleman
Lucic – Ruzicka – Lewis
Hanifin – Andersson
Weegar – Tanev
Zadorov – Gilbert
We’re projecting Jacob Markstrom to start in net, backed up by Dan Vladar, after Markstrom won on Saturday. The projected extras are Dennis Gilbert, Connor Mackey and Adam Ruzicka. There’s no morning skate, so we’ll see what firms up at warm-up. Update: Markstrom starts; Mackey, Ritchie and Stone are spectators.
In six games since the All-Star Break, the Flames are 2-2-2. They’re at a point now where they really need to start stringing wins together if they want to reel in some of the teams ahead of them in the Western Conference playoff race. The challenge is they’ve had minor challenges here and there, and whenever it seems like they’re rounding into form… another part of their game springs a leak for a few games. (It’s been their penalty kill recently.)

The Flyers

Projected lines courtesy Daily Faceoff:
van Riemsdyk – Frost – Konecny
Hayes – Laughton – Tippett
Deslauriers – Cates – Brown
Lycksell – Farabee – Allison
York – Ristolainen
Provorov – Braun
Seeler – DeAngelo
So, the Flyers are carrying three goalies. Why? Well, they really like Carter Hart and Samuel Ersson, and are reportedly concerned about losing under-performing Felix Sandstrom on waivers. (Yes, they’re going full Joni Ortio right now.) Ersson is expected to start, Hart to back up, and Sandstrom, Justin Braun and Kieffer Bellows as the scratches.
The Flyers are on a four game losing skid, including losing back-to-back outings by 6-2 scores to Seattle and Vancouver this week. They’re 1-4-1 since the All-Star Break, and they’re trudging along towards the end of what’s been a pretty miserable, joyless season in the City of Brotherly Love.
