As part of the league-wide roll-out of the Hometown Remix alternate jerseys, the Calgary Flames have unveiled a new look for the 2026-27 season.
And unlike many of their recent “new” jerseys, this design is a pretty bold departure from their prior looks.
The new design features a traditional red base, but with a snazzy gold Flaming C with the famous waffle pattern of the Saddledome roof incorporated.
Here’s how the press release from the league describes the new Flames threads:
Hometown Remix jerseys celebrate the people and places that make each city so great. And nowhere is this more poignant than Calgary, celebrating the last year of Flames in the Saddledome. Housing every home game since 1983, this stadium has seen it all. Worthy opponents. Dramatic battles. Floods! It’s become more than a building. It’s an anchor for community. A physical legacy. One that will live on in your Hometown Remix jersey. From the signature texture of the arena ceiling on the “88 Gold” front crest, to the iconic window shape debossed into the sleeve striping and the arena roofline reflected in the exterior hem striping, no detail has been spared. On the hem, you’ll also find the year the Saddledome was opened, along with the year the new arena will open, closing an important and storied chapter of the Flames. Even the custom block numbers feature the texture of the shutters. Celebrate for one more year, showing up to home games in your Hometown Remix jersey and honour the impact this iconic arena has had on the city.

Flames jerseys unveiled in the salary cap era

Since the 2004-05 lockout, the Flames have introduced a series of “new” looks – often as part of league initiatives – and more often than not, they’ve played it safe and presented looks largely derivative of their historic, excellent jerseys. (This isn’t meant as shade: the Flames’ traditional jerseys and colour scheme are excellent!)
Here’s a quick rundown of the jersey roll-outs since 2005:
  • 2007-08: existing red and white jersey set modified for the Reebok Edge template
  • 2019-10: 1980-94 red jerseys brought back as an alternate
  • 2010-11: Heritage Classic alternate inspired by old Calgary Tigers hockey team
  • 2013-14: western-themed alternate red jersey introduced (with “Calgary C” script logo)
  • 2019-20: Heritage Classic alternate a modification of the 1980-94 white jerseys
  • 2020-21: First Reverse Retro alternate a modification of the 1998-2006 black horse head (Blasty) jersey; 1980-94 red and white set became full-time jerseys
  • 2022-23: Second Reverse Retro alternate a black jersey of 1995-2000 pedestal set
  • 2023-24: Heritage Classic alternate inspired by old Calgary Stampeders hockey team
  • 2026-27: 2003-07 red jerseys brought back as an alternate
The biggest swing the team ever took was the 2013-14 alternate, which got a mixed reception from fans. (It wasn’t terrible, but it just felt like they tried too many different design ideas at once, in my opinion.) But aside from that risk, they’ve generally played it safe and made some fun choices in terms of swapping around some new design elements onto older jersey designs and making some smart tweaks.
This time, though: they’ve made some swings. It’s the first time they’ve had a Flaming C that’s not red, black or a variation on white or cream. Heck, the inclusion of gold, rather than yellow, is a really interesting choice, and we’re fascinated to see how the jerseys look under the bright lights of the Saddledome. It’s a distinctly Flames jersey, but it also feels unique and different in some fun ways.
The Hometown Remix jerseys will debut on Friday night against Anaheim and will be worn nine times this season.
