The hits keep on coming for the Calgary Flames organization in regards to injury. Already missing a slew of players throughout the organization due to injuries, and awaiting word on Adam Ruzicka’s status, the Calgary Wranglers announced on Wednesday morning that defender Jeremie Poirier suffered a laceration on his arm in Saturday’s win in Abbotsford that requires surgery.

Poirier will be out indefinitely.

Poirier was a third-round selection of the Flames in the 2020 NHL Draft. Currently second in the AHL in points among defencemen, Poirier joins a long list of Flames players throughout the organization that are on the shelf or unavailable due to injuries.

On the NHL roster, the Flames are without Oliver Kylington (undisclosed/personal), Jakob Pelletier (shoulder) and Kevin Rooney (shoulder). In the developmental system, Axel Hurtig continues his recovery from a shoulder surgery in Sweden, while Samuel Honzek is on the mend from an injury suffered in Flames camp.

The Flames have been one of the healthiest teams in the NHL over the past year or two, largely avoiding significant injuries or absences. But that luck appears to have run out to open the 2023-24 season.
