We’re very deep into the hockey season, with the Calgary Flames and Stockton Heat heading into the final stretch of their respective seasons. Across the rest of the hockey world, the playoffs are just over the horizon. Heck, the college teams are already in their playoff tournaments!
Let’s check in on how all the Flames’ youngsters fared this week.
This and that
- G Tyler Parsons remains on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve.
- He’s not technically a prospect anymore, but D Juuso Valimaki has 10 points in 18 AHL games for Stockton.
- F Adam Ruzicka has gotten a full-time residence in Calgary, so it seems likely that he won’t be returning to Stockton anytime soon.
- The Flames acquired G Michael McNiven from Montreal last week. We’ll list him here as soon as he dresses for Stockton. (He doesn’t even need to play.)
Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Beck had a quiet offensive week by his lofty standards, registering just a power play assist for the 67’s.
Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10
Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Notre Dame advanced to the Big 10 conference semi-final round, where they will face Matty Beniers and Michigan. Gulp. (If they get eliminated, they still have a strong chance for an at-large bit to NCAA tournament due to their high placement in the pairwise rankings.)
Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | n/a |
Seattle’s playing well as a team, but Ciona has become a contributor of key goals lately. He scored twice this week, including a dramatic late game-winner that helped swing a likely regulation loss into a regulation win.
Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE
Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Harvard was off this week, as they had a bye through the first round of the conference playoff tournament. But Coronato was named the ECAC conference’s rookie of the month for February and was named to the conference’s all-rookie team for the season.
Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 3 | +0.61 |
Francis continues to chug along as a consistent offensive contributor in the Q. He had two multi-point games this week (and a third game where he didn’t get any points). On a per-game basis, he’s one of the Sea Dogs’ top offensive players.
Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Huckins hasn’t played for the Titan since mid-February and there’s yet to be any official announcement about his status.
Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL
Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Jordan missed one of Moose Jaw’s games for an unspecified reason, presumably a minor injury or illness. Our pal Joel Henderson provided some nice context for Jordan’s season to date: he’s on a stacked team (with Memorial Cup hopes and dreams) and so he’s being used somewhat sparingly coming off his prior injuries.
Cole Jordan #Flames WHL Update.
He was QBing 2nd PP on a stacked Moose Jaw blueline before being injured Jan 25th. Since returning Feb 15th, he’s playing less than 10 mins a game unless it’s a blowout. No special teams. Deployment as the 6th defender.

Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 2 | +0.32 |
This feels repetitive but here we go: Kerins is really good at the OHL level. He had two multi-point games and is one of the best offensive players in the entire circuit.
Johannes Kinnvall – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Kinnvall played once and was scratched once. He’s still finding his consistency at the AHL level, it seems.
Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | +1.40 |
Pettersen had a goal in one game and an assist in the other game. He’s had a quiet offensive year, playing a defensive role in the bottom six, but he’s been heating up lately (if you’ll forgive the pun).
Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -1.28 |
Phillips had just one point this week, but it was setting up Juuso Valimaki’s overtime game-winning goal. If you’re going to have one point, that’s not a bad spot to choose.
Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing

Poirier had three points this week and surpassed Thomas Chabot for the Sea Dogs’ franchise record for career points by a defender. Poirier remains one of the QMJHL’s most consistent offensive producers from the blueline. He’s consistent producing at roughly a point-per-game pace.
Colton Poolman – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
