A pair of Calgary Flames prospects will be heading to summer World Junior evaluation camps for their countries.
Earlier this week, it was announced by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association that forward Theo Stockselius will be part of Sweden’s roster for the upcoming World Junior Summer Showcase in late July in Windsor, Ontario.
A second-round selection by the Flames in 2025, Stockselius previously represented Sweden at the Under-18 World Championships and the Junior A World Challenge, winning silver at both events. He was also part of league championship wins with his club team, Djurgardens, in Sweden’s top under-18 and under-20 teams, winning the under-20 crown in each of the last two years and being named the under-20 playoffs MVP in 2025-26. He would have likely been a contender for a World Junior spot last winter, but he missed a couple months with a skate cut. He should be a strong contender for a spot this year.
Meanwhile, the Czech Ice Hockey Association will be taking part in a mini-tournament with Finland and Switzerland to help Finland choose their roster for the Summer Showcase – Finland has a “main” team and a younger “challenger” team that vie for roster spots – and goaltender Tobias Trejbal has been named to the Czech roster.
A second-round selection by the Flames in 2026, Trejbal has previously represented Czechia at the Under-18 World Championships. He was the USHL’s top goaltender in 2025-26 and named to the league’s All-Rookie Team. He should be a strong contender for a World Junior spot.
In all, the Flames currently have six players headed to World Junior summer camps: Jack Hextall, Cullen Potter, Ethan Wyttenbach and Mace’o Phillips with the United States, Stockselius with Sweden, and Trejbal with Czechia. We’re expecting to see likely a couple Flames prospects named to Canada’s Summer Showcase roster – probably Carson Carels and Cole Reschny – but that roster likely isn’t announced until closer to the event in mid-to-late July.
The 2026 World Juniors go Dec. 26, 2026 to Jan. 5, 2027 in Edmonton and Red Deer.
