The Calgary Flames have made a couple roster moves on Wednesday, as they regroup after Tuesday’s pre-season win against Vancouver and prepare for Thursday’s pre-season game in Seattle.

Headed to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers are defenceman Abram Wiebe and forward Luke Philp. Wiebe is on an entry-level NHL contract and is waiver exempt this season, while Philp is on an AHL contract and is not subject to waivers.

Wiebe, 23, is a left shot defender entering his first pro season with the Flames. Originally drafted in the seventh round by Vegas in 2022, he was traded to the Flames in the Rasmus Andersson deal and signed with the club after North Dakota’s season ended. He played four NHL games last season, and he seems likely to be a fixture on the Wranglers’ top defensive pairing this season, potentially on the left side of Hunter Brzustewicz.

Philp, 30, is a right shot forward that can play centre or the wing. He played in the Western League for five seasons, then played in USports for another three before joining the Flames on an entry-level NHL deal in 2019-20. He played in the Flames, Blackhawks and Capitals systems for awhile, then headed to Sweden for last season, but he’s back in the Flames system on an AHL deal.
