As they prepare for training camp next week, the Calgary Flames have made a signing. Per PuckPedia, and subsequently announced by the club, the Flames have signed veteran blueliner Jarred Tinordi to a one year, two-way deal. It’s worth $800,000 at the NHL level, $350,000 at the AHL level, and has guaranteed salary overall of $425,000.

Tinordi, 32, is a left shot blueliner and the son of longtime NHLer Mark Tinordi. Jarred was originally drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in 2010.
Since then, he may not have lived up to the lofty expectations that some scouts had for him, but he’s carved out a really good pro career for himself. He’s played 205 NHL games with Montreal, Arizona, Nashville, Boston, the NY Rangers and Chicago. He’s also played 429 AHL games with Hamilton, St. John’s, Tucson, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Milwaukee and Hartford. He served as captain with the OHL’s London Knights for a season and with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals for two seasons.
Tinordi had nine points in 52 games last season for a downright bad Chicago club, and that’s actually a career-high for him in NHL games in a single season. If Tinordi’s in the NHL this season, he’ll be depth, a third-pairing option that can step in and provide some reliable if unspectacular minutes. If he’s in the AHL, he’s a veteran who knows the pro game inside and out and could provide some mentorship for the many, many fresh faces on the roster… and could step into the leadership role vacated when captain Brett Sutter retired to join the Wranglers coaching staff.
Tinordi isn’t likely to move the needle a ton offensively, but for a Flames organization in transition that needs some veteran insurance and insulation for its’ young prospects, he could be a really useful signing for the NHL and AHL sides of things.
The Flames have also officially announced the addition of blueliner Tyson Barrie on a pro try-out agreement, originally reported awhile back by Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
