Folks, welcome to the final day for trades for the 2025-26 NHL season. Thanks for joining FlamesNation for our continuing coverage of the 2026 NHL trade deadline, and for following along on the site for this live blog that we’ll update throughout the day.
So far, it’s been a pretty eventful couple of months in regards to the Calgary Flames and trades.
That’s two very big trades… and a “change of scenery” swap for an AHLer.
Meanwhile, there’s a ton of chatter and rumours about a lot of Flames players. The most prominent names we’ve seen out there are Nazem Kadri (three years left at $7 million AAV), Zach Whitecloud (two years left at $2.75 million) and Blake Coleman (one year left at $4.9 million), but there’s also a chance we could see some other names move, such as Ryan Lomberg (pending UFA, $2 million), Joel Hanley (one year left at $1.75 million AAV) or Brayden Pachal (one year left at $1.187 million AAV).
The Flames are a team in transition, and we’ll see if they make any more key subtractions – or add more draft or prospect capital – between now and the 1 p.m. MT trade deadline.
10:00 a.m. MT update: Well, not much going on quite yet for the Flames.
In terms of their main competition for the first overall pick, the Canucks have done their best to maximize their chances. Already last overall in the NHL standings, they’ve gotten worse on paper with a couple swaps. Tyler Myers is off to Dallas, while Conor Garland is off to Columbus.
10:30 a.m. MT update: Super-minor update: Matvei Gridin is no longer listed on the Flames’ NHL roster on the media site. He’s the only Flame eligible to be sent down to the Wranglers. There haven’t been any announcements, but our suspicion is that he was sent to the Wranglers to maintain his eligibility for the AHL, and he’ll be called back up after the trade deadline.
11:10 a.m. MT update: The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta shared on the DFO trade deadline show that he’s told Montreal has circled back to the Flames on a potential Nazem Kadri move.
11:30 a.m. MT update: The Flames had an “optional activation” listed on their schedule, but it appears that everyone took the option for the off-day.
12:00 pm. MT update: One hour to go! The Flames have yet to make any moves.
12:05 p.m. MT update: Via Sportsnet’s Eric Francis, Olli Maatta hit the ice alone to work in his new Flames gear. He arrived in town last night after the trade from Utah on Wednesday.
1:05 p.m. MT update: A bit of a frenzy of activity following the deadline, as teams file stuff and news leaks out from various places.
The Flames have acquired Ryan Strome from Anaheim, per multiple reports.
Per The Fourth Period, sounds like Blake Coleman and Ryan Lomberg are staying put.
2:30 p.m. MT update: Sorry for the lack of updates, it got busy.
The Flames have traded Nazem Kadri to Colorado, we’re waiting on the return to be reported. They’ve also swapped Jacob Battaglia to the New York Rangers in exchange for Brennan Othmann.
