The Calgary Flames have announced that a new scoreboard will be installed over centre ice at the Scotiabank Saddledome in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.
The new &#8220;Sportsnet Scoreboard&#8221; will replace the Energy Board (formerly sponsored by Enmax) that has been in place at the Saddledome since the mid-2000s.
Much like the scoreboards that have recently been installed in Colorado and Vancouver, the new Calgary scoreboard is rectangular in shape and primarily consists of four massive screens that each face one side of the arena bowl. It also includes a large LED ring that will primarily be used for advertisements.

&#8220;In partnership with our broadcast rightsholder Sportsnet, the Calgary Flames are proud to bring a new state of the art centre-hung scoreboard to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the start of the 2024-25 NHL season,&#8221; the Flames said in a release on Thursday afternoon. &#8220;The new Sportsnet Scoreboard will feature four 3.9mm video displays, each measuring 30’ wide by 18’ high, which are 3.75 times larger than the previous primary video screens.
&#8220;The Sportsnet Scoreboard also includes an upper LED halo ring with a 40’ circumference to showcase partnership and fan experience elements. For the remaining years inside the Scotiabank Saddledome, this technology will continue our commitment to elevate the fan experience for all sports fans in Calgary.&#8221;
It&#8217;s unclear at this point whether the new scoreboard will retain the ability to shoot flames after goals and wins, but it certainly will be much larger than the old one. However, it will not be brought into the new arena; the Flames said it will be replaced by yet another scoreboard designed specifically for that purpose.
Coincidentally, back when the old Energy Board was introduced nearly two decades ago, the Flames suggested at that point in time that they planned on bringing it with them when they moved into their new building — which just goes to show how long this whole arena saga has bragged on.
Construction on the Flames&#8217; new downtown arena is expected to begin later this year, with the club currently scheduled to move out of the Saddledome and into its new digs in time for the 2027-28 season.
