A few days after grinding out a 4-1 victory in Seattle, the Calgary Flames had to rely on a dramatic comeback on home ice to defeat the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night. The Flames rallied back from a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3 over Seattle.
Head coach Darryl Sutter
On the changes (putting in Dan Vladar, shuffling lines) in the third period: “Well, it’s 2-1 late in the second and we miss those chances on the power play and they come right back, score and make it 3-1. So, need something to jump start it a little bit.”
On the third period comeback: “You’ve gotta win third periods. You’re not always going to be great, but you gotta try to win the third period. You win third periods, you’re going to win hockey games.”
On a 100-point season for a player, after initially reciting that it takes a team playing .610 hockey to reach 100 points in the standings: “For a player? I don’t care. Does that win a scoring race? Does that win a Stanley Cup? I’d rather have the guys who win the scoring race in the playoffs.”
On getting his 100th point (and 101st) in a victory: “It was awesome. I think we didn’t play well in the first two periods. it’s hard to play against teams sometimes when they’re out of playoffs, they play so freely and it was tough for us I think in the first two periods. I think we battled back there in the third. Big power play goal. Mangy big goal to tie the game up. And then Hanny’s been playing really well for us, got the game-winner. And then obviously Chucky, couple goals, three goals there for us. So it was a big team win.”
At 1:52 of the Gaudreau/Tkachuk press conference, Tkachuk jokes that he’s “never come close” to reaching 100 points. After he says that, Gaudreau can be seen studying the game sheet to figure out how close Tkachuk is to 100 now. (He has 92 points with nine games left in the regular season.)
