After a first night that seemed to last forever, the 2025 NHL Draft will conclude on Saturday with the final six rounds of the proceedings. But based on how glacial the pace was on Friday, it may take awhile.
The Calgary Flames made two selections on the first day of the 2025 NHL Draft, selected a pair of centres in Cole Reschny and Cullen Potter. They could make up to five more picks on the second day of the event.
The second day of the draft starts bright and early at 10 a.m. MT on Sportsnet.

Calgary’s picks

As noted yesterday, the Flames have five picks on the second day of the draft:
  • 54th overall (2nd round) – from Colorado via Washington (Andrew Mangiapane trade)
  • 80th overall (3rd round)
  • 144th overall (5th round)
  • 176th overall (6th round)
  • 208th overall (7th round)

Calgary’s drafting tendencies

Historically, the Flames have leaned heavily on the Western and Ontario Hockey Leagues in Canadian major junior when it comes to their drafting, along with Sweden. In recent years, though, they’ve supplemented those spots with more and more picks from American junior and Russia.
Several players who were projected as possible first-round talents remain available as Day 2 of the draft opens:
  • D Blake Fiddler – Edmonton (WHL)
  • F Milton Gastrin – MoDo Hockey (J20 Nationell)
  • F Jakob Ihs-Wozniak – Lulea HF (J20 Nationell)
  • G Jack Ivankovic – Brampton (OHL)
  • D Kurban Limatov – MHK Dynamo Moskva (MHL)
  • F Cole McKinney – U.S. National Development Program (USHL)
  • F William Moore – U.S. National Development Program (USHL)
  • F Jack Murtagh – U.S. National Development Program (USHL)
  • F Eric Nilson – Djurgardens IF (Allsvenskan)
  • F Daniil Prokhorov – MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg (MHL)
  • D Max Psenicka – Portland (WHL)
  • D Jacob Rombach – Lincoln (USHL)
  • F Ivan Ryabkin – Muskegon (USHL)
  • F Cameron Schmidt – Vancouver (WHL)
  • F Malcolm Spence – Erie (OHL)
  • F Theo Stockselius – Djurgardens IF (Allsvenskan)
  • F Shane Vansaghi – Michigan State (NCAA)

We’ll see how many of these players remain available when the Flames select for the first time at 54th overall!
