Flames Pick Sven Bartschi 13th overall

Despite all the chatter about Robyn Regehr and Ryan Smyth heading into the evening, the first round of the 2011 entry draft turned out to be a pretty quiet one for the Calgary Flames.
The club took Sven Bartschi with the 13th overall pick, which was pretty much in-line with expectations. Bartschi is a smaller player who put up big points for the powerful Portland Winterhawks last year. Here is our prospect profile of him from a couple of weeks ago.
Tomorrow, the Flames will have a couple of picks in the second round where guys like Ty Rattie and Rocco Grimaldi are still available. We’ll put up an open thread here on FN to talk about the proceedings as they occur.
