In the latest development in a story that continues to unfold, the Calgary Flames have placed legendary forward Jaromir Jagr on waivers.

Jagr, 45, signed with the Flames back on Oct. 3 and suited up for 22 games. Unfortunately, a combination of age, not having a full training camp (and perhaps rushing into game action), and the speed of the current NHL game made him less effective than everyone involved probably would have liked. He had one goal and seven points while playing primarily a bottom six role with the Flames.

Jagr clearing waivers could be a precursor to unconditional waivers tomorrow, which would be followed by a contract termination, or merely a step towards the Flames loaning him to Kladno, which would maintain their ability to bring him back for the playoffs. If he’s terminated, the Flames would free up a contract spot and free up the cap space for the remainder of his contract. If he’s loaned, it’s likely that the Flames would be on the hook for some (if not all) of the rest of his contract.
